Trump is saying that he has lost India. My dear friend … you have put 50% tariffs on India thinking that India will shell out a few hundred billion to your personal funds so that you can reduce the tariffs. But unfortunately that will not happen because India is not like China. China is Establishment run … a few large corporations form the largest exporters in China … like China pays you about a trillion dollars to go easy on tariffs … India cannot.

India is not Establishment run … the Indian market is not owned or controlled by a few large corporations. Let alone a trillion dollars … no Indian corporation will shell out even a hundred billion to reduce the tariffs. They don’t have that kind of money and that’s not how India operates.

It was a miscalculation from your side to think that you might make some money from India as well. Yes, India is a big market … but it is completely democratized … there are thousands of individual players … no one will pay that kind of money to get access to the US market.

Modi needs to know what you exactly want
Its not about India being proud or arrogant … the market structure in India is totally different. However, you might be able to pull off some amount at least if you directly negotiate with Modi. Tell Modi exactly what you want and Modi can figure out some number for you. In India, corporations don’t rule the Nation but leaders rule the Nation. The power still lies in the hands of leaders in India.

Tell any one of your team members to start a discussion with Modi … giving him direct hints on what he should do to remove tariffs or to reduce tariffs … and probably Modi can talk it out with some top players in the country to make a deal.

Don’t expect hundreds of billions but I think you can look at a number of around $10-20 Billion from India to make a deal. Modi can make it happen.
